Learning Objectives
- Students count aloud from one to ten with rhythm, clapping or stomping on each number.
- Students answer "How many?" by counting a small set of real objects and saying the final number (Three!).
- Students jump card to card in the Counting Loop, saying each numeral as they land.
- Students match numerals 1β5 reliably before extending to 6β10 during whole-group practice.
- Students hear and respond to /t/ (ten) and /n/ (nine) with numeral cards, visual cues, and finger TPR.
Warm-up: Meeting Up & Warming Up (10 mins)
Purpose: Establish safe circle, review prior routines, and build counting rhythm with fingers before the Counting Loop activity.

Purpose: Psychological safety, predictable arrival, preview today's counting theme.

"Look at me." (hold Look card) "Listen." (hold Listen card) "We are in the same safe circle. Same friends, same teacher, same room."
"Today we count! One, two, three β all the way to ten! We jump, we clap, we ask: How many? Are you ready?"

"First β safe circle. Look β Listen β Sit. Numbers are patient friends."
If a child jumps onto the number loop early, point to Sit card: "Numbers wait for us. Sit on your dot β we jump together soon."
If a child shouts random numbers ("Ninety-nine!"), smile: "Big number! Today we learn one to ten. Listen β one!"
If a child refuses to sit, pat the dot beside you: "You can sit here by me. Same safe circle."
- Children enter; teacher greets each at the door: "Hello, [name]! Sit on your spot."
- Look Β· Listen Β· Sit with cards β 3-second settle wait for whole-group attention.
- Hold up numeral cards 1, 5, and 10 briefly β "Today these numbers get bigger. We will count them all!"
- Point to floor loop without walking on it β "Our Counting Loop β later!"
Step 2 Β· Warming Up (β5 min)
Purpose: Energy + review link to Lessons 01β03 plus finger counting warm-up.

If a child holds up wrong finger count, model again: "Watch my fingers β one. Show me one finger. Perfect!"
If counting skips a number (one, two, four), slow down: "We didn't forget three β listen β three!" Clap together.
If a child counts in Korean only, accept then bridge: "Yes β [Korean]! In English β three! Say three."

- Look Β· Listen Β· Sit drill β 2 rounds mixed order (β1 min).
- Finger count 1β5 with clap Γ 2 passes; extend to 10 once group is steady (β3 min).
- Transition: "Fingers ready β now the Counting Loop!"
Main Activity: Counting Loop & /t/ /n/ Phonics (15 mins)
Teacher Note: Master 1β5 before pushing 6β10. The Counting Loop requires brief standing movement; return to circle seats for phonics and Calming Down.
Step 3 Β· Opening Up (β8 min)
Purpose: MAIN theme activity β Counting Loop: jump card to card while counting aloud; "How many?" checks with real objects.

"We start at ONE. Step on one β say one! Step on two β say two! Jump slow β walking feet on the numbers."
"Watch me first." (model: step on cards 1β5, say each number aloud) "Oneβ¦ twoβ¦ threeβ¦ fourβ¦ five! Your turn!"
Teacher Β· Loop rounds + How many?
"Round one β five friends at a time. Start at one β go to five β back to your spot."
"Round two β all the way to TEN! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, TEN!"
"Now β How many?" (hold up three blocks) "Count with me. One, two, three. How many? Three!"
"Your turn to answer. How many?" (show five cups) "Count⦠How many? Five! Wonderful!"

"How many?" (show seven blocks) "Count with me β one, two, three, four, five, six, seven!"
"How many? Seven! [Name], your turn β count these." (show four)
"One, two, three, four β How many? Four! Loop finished β sit on your spot!"
If a child skips a numeral on the loop, point to the card: "This is four β say four! Then five." Never scold β guide the foot and the word together.
If a child answers "Lots!" to How many?, redirect: "Let's count together β one, two, three. How many? Three!"
If two children jump on the same card, pause: "One friend on one number. Wait your turn β [name] first."
If a child runs on the loop, stop the line: "Walking feet on numbers. Step β say β step β say."
- Teacher models Counting Loop 1β5 from circle edge (β1 min).
- Round 1: small groups travel 1β5 on the loop; class counts along (β2 min).
- Round 2: volunteers or whole line travel 1β10; teacher chants with them (β2 min).
- "How many?" with 3 objects, then 5, then 7 β class counts, one child answers (β2 min).
- Return to circle seats β "Loop finished! Sit on your spot."
Step 4 Β· Cheering Up (β7 min)
Purpose: Phonics /t/ ten and /n/ nine β numeral cards as visual cues + finger TPR + peer cheer.

"Ten starts with T! T says t-t-ten. Tuh-tuh-tuh. Tongue behind teeth β tuh!"
"This is number ten." (show 10 card + ten fingers picture) "Ten fingers β count them! Tuh-tuh β ten!"
"Tap your ten fingers together β tap, tap β tuh, tuh, ten!"
Teacher Β· Introduce /n/ nine + partner cheer
"Nine starts with N! N says n-n-nine. Nnn-nnn-nnn. Nose sound β hum through your nose. Nnn!"

If /t/ and /n/ confuse, compare: "Tuh β tongue tap, no nose. Nnn β nose hum, soft tongue." Exaggerate mouth and nose.
If a child shows wrong finger count for nine or ten, model: "Nine is one hand plus four β watch me. Nnn β nine!"
If partner cheer becomes silly faces, reset: "Nine fingers β nnn. Ten fingers β tuh. Switch β go!"
If a child refuses partner work, pair with teacher: "You and me β nine fingers β nnn! Perfect."
- Show 10 card + ten fingers picture β model /t/ Γ 3, wiggle ten fingers.
- Show 9 card + nine dots β model /n/ Γ 3, hold up nine fingers.
- Alternating drill: teacher holds 9 or 10 card β class responds with correct sound + fingers.
- Partner cheer: 30 seconds each side β nine fingers + /n/, ten fingers + /t/.
- Whole-group check: 10 card β tuh + ten fingers; 9 card β nnn + nine fingers.
Wrap-up: Calming Down (5 mins)
Purpose: Lower energy after jumping, collect numeral cards, affirm counting effort, dismiss with Goodbye Song.
Step 5 Β· Calming Down (β5 min)
Purpose: Breathing, compliment, goodbye song, dismissal.

If a child shouts "TEN!" during quiet exhale, whisper model: "Tiny tuh β like a little tap. Tuhβ¦ soft."
If a child grabs numeral cards from the floor during cleanup, redirect: "Numbers sleep in the basket. One card β your helper job!"
- Two breath cycles with /t/ and /n/ exhale (β1 min).
- Compliment circle: 2β3 specific praises + stickers (β1 min).
- Goodbye Song with individual name verse (β2 min).
- Line up, high-five exit ritual (β1 min).
